A well-traveled young man...

So I'm sitting here writng this post with our wonderful Brian sleeping in my lap. Nothing unique about that, right? Well actually, we are in the car in Galveston at the Texas A&M campus. We are waiting for Daddy to be done with class so we can head up to Houston for some errands. And our well-traveled boy is doing so wonderful! He's been all over Lake Jackson, Galveston, and Houston in his first six weeks and he makes it so easy. We are blessed to have such a pleasant, easy baby!

I was going to include a cute picture of him sleeping here with me, but I can't figure out how to include a picture when posting from my phone. So you'll have to be content with my description of this wonderful little boy.

Happy 6 weeks, Brian! We love you!!

6 weeks gone already

As I was sitting here looking through pictures (and video) that we took this week, I'm once again amazed at how much Brian has changed in just the last 6 weeks!  He is making noises now, and reaching for toys.  He loves his bouncy chair and play gym, and absolutely adores his mobile (which makes diaper changes much easier!).  I'm including one video and a set of pictures from this week.  I hope you all enjoy seeing how much he is changing.

Sound asleep, snuggled up in a soft blanket

Laying in Dad's chair

Playing with his play gym.  He's figuring out that he can hit the animals and make them move

Not the best quality picture, but so sweet!  He's holding Dad's hand

Says it all ... :)

Just being cute.  I have to say, the knee socks make any outfit you put him in so much cuter.  :)

Week 5

I can't believe that we've had Brian home with us for five weeks now.  He'll be five weeks old tomorrow, and he's changed so much already!  He's so strong, and alert, and growing so much.  He smiles at us now, and is starting to play.  He really prefers musical toys (and it seems he couldn't care less about rattly stuff) so we've found some fun musical toys that really grab his attention.  It's so fun to watch him developing his personality right in front of us!

I got some vital statistics from my mom this week, and found them very interesting.  As a recap, Brian was:
6 days late
Born at 0534
7 lbs and 9 oz
21" long

I was:
6 days late
Born at 0600
8 lbs and 3 oz
20 7/8" long

It's amazing how similar our statistics are!  Of course, at his one month check up Brian was 9 pounds 7 ounces and 22.5" long.  At one month I was 10 lbs 11 oz and 22" long, so I definitely didn't stay as long and thin at Brian is.  (I was about the 80th percentile in both height and weight at one month; Brian is about 90th percentile in height and 50th percentile in weight.)

Here are some pictures from this week.  I'm also including a video I took this morning from when he was sitting on my lap just being happy.  I hope you'll enjoy.  My favorite part is where he starts to sneeze and just makes a cute little noise!

Strong Boy!

Knock, Knock.  Brian telling his first joke?

He has definitely started watching his toys, especially the mobile on his swing.

A couple of shots of our happy little lion.  See more of this in the video.

Continuing the jungle theme, it's our little monkey.

All we are saying, is give PEAS a chance!

Tummy Time

Hanging with Daddy!

Brian playing on a blanket with his Grandma Amy

So sweet and sleepy!  Here we are, just sitting in the rocker together.

An artsy close up of us snuggling in the rocker.

He was definitely worth the wait!!

Family pictures

So, in honor of Brian's first month today, I decided to start a new tradition.  I'm going to find a way to get a picture of Cory and Brian and I all together on the 4th of every month to mark his monthly birthdays.  Just a silly way to be sure we get pictures of the family together.  However, today's picture shoot didn't turn out so well as he wasn't in the mood to be photogenic.  The best shot we got is below, and as you can see he's not even looking at the camera.  Cory was trying to soothe him so we could get a picture that didn't include him crying.  Oh well.  It's a start.  Maybe we'll get a good one this weekend.

Having Brian sleep in his own room last night worked out pretty well.  There are some kinks to work out, but I think we'll all sleep better from here on out.

Video

Ok, so here's an attempt at sharing video of Brian.  Leave a comment and let me know if it works for you on your connection or not, so I'll know how to do this in the future.  There's a password (keeps random people from reusing the video other places) that is all lower case - "floor".

Enjoy watching him play on the floor.  :)

*edit* I'm working on the audio for this.  For some reason compressing the file ditched the sound - and that was half of the reason I posted it.  More (hopefully) soon.

One month old - and another first

So depending on your point of view, Brian was either one-month old on Monday when he hit 4 weeks, or will be tomorrow on November 4th.  (This goes back to the same confusion of 40 weeks of pregnancy vs. 9 months of pregnancy - we make things so complicated.)  Either way, I can't believe we've had him for so long!

And tonight, for the first time, he's sleeping (OK, really napping) in his own room!  I think we'll try having him in there all night and see how *I* do.  He'll be fine - but you know us first time moms!  It's a little surreal to think of him in his own room.  He's been sleeping with me (or in me, as the case was) for almost the last year.  I wonder if I'll make a whole night with him in there the first time ...

We'll see.

Week 4 - finishing out October

So this week we officially finished out Brian's first month (October).  He's on to his second calendar month (welcome to November) and is almost a month old.  He's so much fun the time just flies.  We also enjoyed our first holiday with the little guy (see the Halloween post).

Here are the pictures I collected from this week.

Sweet sleeping boy!  I was trying to show you his long eye lashes - but they don't photograph well with a cell phone camera!

One of the new outfits (in the bigger size) that we enjoyed this week.

His face and hands are so expressive - even when he's asleep.

Like this face - it says "I hope you stocked the diaper bag!"

This was an outfit sent to us by Brian's Grandma Amy's realtor/friend from Sacramento.  Thanks Renee!  He was so cute all dressed up with the jacket and everything.

My favorite picture of the week (not counting his Halloween picture).  He was fresh out of a bath, all clean and snuggly with just his towel and socks on.  Then just moments after I took this picture he peed all over the towel, socks, and all.  Oops!

Here are two pictures in this outfit.  The one on the left was taken October 15th.  The one on the right was taken October 30th.  You can see how he's grown from how it fits.  He's also getting much more stretched out and less curled up as time goes by!

Sleeping...

Snuggled up in my arms falling asleep (except for that pesky light!).

And stretching...

And yawning ...
